A 5-Step Formula To Set Goals And Cross The Finish Line
In order to be successful and achieve anything in life or business, it’s essential to set clear goals.
Here are 5 steps to achieve your goals and grow your business.
1.Decide what you want without worrying about the how.
When you’re trying to create something extraordinary or accomplish a big goal, most likely you have the why but you’re not super clear on the how.
Most entrepreneurs get stuck in the “how to vortex” and choose to settle for less because they don’t have a clear path with the exact steps laid out in front of them.
This is where embracing the unknown plays a huge role so you can take leap of faith and trust you’ll be guided the next steps.
Get clear and make a decision on what you want.
“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Action: Write down all of your goals on a piece of paper.
Example: design a membership site, hire the right person for my membership site, launch a 6-month program, launch a “tap into wealth” 30-day program, create passive income products, do a 3-day become a money magnet challenge, etc.
2.Prioritize a 90-day plan to reduce overwhelm and stay focused.
Entrepreneurs are visionaries and they have tons of ideas flowing in faster than they can implement. This can create huge overwhelm and lead to burnout.
Working in 90-day increments will help you stay more focused and committed.
It’s a great idea to know your big vision and have long-term goals, but breaking it down into bite-size pieces will create much more efficiency — minus the overwhelm and burnout.
You get into a mode of creation for each quarter and have horse-with-blinders focus to accomplish your goals in that time frame. This not only brings motivation back, but also makes your goal real, believable and achievable.
Action: Prioritize and pick the top 3 goals you would like to achieve for the next 90 days from the list you created in step one (above).
3.Assign a deadline for each goal to get it done.
“A goal is a dream with a deadline” – Napoleon Hill
It’s time to assign a date by which you would like to achieve each one of your top 3 goals. This gives you a clear window to work with.
This is like putting a signal out to the universe with your intention to meet (or exceed) your goal by a certain date.
An example would be the stone and sand in a jar analogy.
Your top 3 goals are like the stones which you want to give your focus and attention to and allow the other smaller goals and tasks be the fillers like sand that would automatically fit in.
Action: Assign a deadline for each of your top 3 goals.
4.Break down your top goals to bite-size micro goals
Here’s the secret to achieving goals with ease and grace; you only need to know and work on the step in front of you, not all 10 steps at once.
You don’t necessarily need to know the path from step 1 to 10 or the entire route from point A to Z in order to hit the finish line.
Make it simple. Break it down ever further and work with one step at a time for each goal.
Forget the rest and put all your focus and attention on completing step one. Super easy! Then move onto step two. Done! What about step three?
Focus on doing your best on the step in front of you, and before you know it, you’ll be at your goal.
Action: Write down your next step for each of your top 3 goals. When you complete step 1, you’ll figure out step 2 and then step 3 and so on until you have figured out the entire path to step 10. Voila! You have figured out exactly how you will accomplish your goals.
5.Be persistent to implement.
You’ve decided laid out three goals, a 90-day plan, deadlines for each, and every step you’ll take to accomplish each goal!
Now you have to be persistent. I’ve seen many entrepreneurs give up too quickly because something doesn’t quiet go the way it was planned.
There will be challenges and obstacles along the way, that’s just life. Make peace with it and decide right now that you will push beyond the barriers.
You’ve got to keep your head in the game and be persistent. It’s just like any sports training, in order to get really good you must practice.
The same applies to setting and accomplishing goals, you must keep moving forward to accomplish your goals. Before you know it you’ll have made your dream a reality!
Setting your goals can be so easy, but hitting the finish line with each goal can be really hard! If you’re struggling with planning out bite-sized, actionable steps to reach your end goal, I want to help you, learn how we can work together!
